New Year’s Resolutions

We are a few weeks into the new year and already enough time has passed proving that we have lost sight of our new year’s resolutions! It is amazing how the excitement that builds around new beginnings fuels us to make commitments that we can’t or won’t keep.

When I look at the student body at any Arthur Murray this is far from the truth! Students make commitments and set goals every day! They joyfully dream and find hapiness in the promise that their life will be enhanced by participating in the journey to becoming a good dancer. Of course this journey has its challenges. Each student has to dedicate their time, effort and money to making their dreams come true. There is also a curve of learning that, at times, can test a person mentally and physically.

So what is the difference between making a new year’s resolution and setting a goal with Arthur Murray? The answer is the consistent, unwavering support and encouragement that the staff provide! It is the fuel that keeps people coming back for more! The smiles, phone calls, greetings, trust, rapport, personalized planning, accountability and proof of progress all play an important part in the success of reaching goals!

I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization! It is rewarding and heart-warming to see the achievements of the students in an Arthur Murray Dance Studio! It doesn’t have to be the New Year to make a resolution to be a better you… call the studio today and meet your personal goals tomorrow with the help of a certified Arthur Murray Instructor!

Oh, What a Feeling!

The energy and excitement surrounding an Arthur Murray event never ceases to amaze me! The women, in their beautiful dresses, glow with the effervescence of a twinkling star and the men, in their dashing black attire, so elegantly frame their lovely partners! Everyone is shaking with a combination of nerves and pure enthusiasm to exhibit their skills for friends, family and peers! It is truly intoxicating!

The Severna Park Open House event was held on Friday, November 18th from 7pm – 10pm and had approximately 75 people in attendance. Everyone gathered to demonstrate their progress and support their fellow dancers throughout a packed evening of professional/amateur demonstrations.

There was food, general instruction, social dancing and plenty of camaraderie. Some of the students invited guests to experience the joy of dancing! It is the highest form of flattery and we were grateful to host them during their visit! Some chose to try their hand at a few private lessons to experience, first-hand, how dancing can elevate their life!

Events like these prove that in such troubled economic times we, as a society, need to feel loved, supported and appreciated! Life continues to pound at our doors, but at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio we don’t let life in! We create a healthy environment where everyone is safe to BE HAPPY! 2011 Las Vegas Superama

The 2011 Superama Competition was hosted by Arthur Murray International at the fabulous Wynn Resort in Las Vegas from October 25th through the 30th. We were proud to send 5 students and 3 staff to represent the Severna Park Arthur Murray Dance Studio at this year’s event! Team Severna Park consisted of Mr. Tom Thiele, Ms. Sherry Ramsay, Ms. Gina Vetro, Ms. Charella Marx, Mr. Anton Marx, Ms. Tristin Weiman, Mr. Paul Pietrzak and Ms. Autumn Baldwin. They all met on Tuesday after a long anticipated summer of practicing and preparing for the international competition. There were over 500 participants in attendance from 88 different studios and 5 different countries! This year boasts the largest ballroom competition in the country with almost fourteen thousand entries!

They kicked off their dance extravaganza with a formal dinner at the 5 star restaurant Sage and attending the reknowned Cirque Du Soliel show, Viva Elvis! Everyone enjoyed a night of eating, drinking and socializing like the stars! The dancing began on Wednesday and ran through Saturday afternoon. Those in attendance showcased their learning in various categories: closed freestyles, open freestyles, solo routines, all-around, scholarship, amatuer 3 dance and Professional Rising Star competitions. Our Team represented the studio in the annual costume parade in their roaring 20′s apparel and showcased their Charleston skills in the open competition! Dressed to the nines, they gathered for a formal dinner dance and awards ceremony where they enjoyed fine dining and social dancing to celebrate their week’s accomplishments. The event came to an unforgettable close with an all-star line up of performances by Riccardo Cocchi & Yulia Zagoruychenko, the World & US Professional Latin Champions, and Gherman Mustuc & Iveta Lukosiute, the World Ten Dance Champions.

The team did not come home empty-handed! The awards were as follows:

Top Newcomer Male, Mr. Tom Thiele; Top Full Gold Couple, Mr. Anton and Ms. Charella Marx; 6th place Associate Bronze All-Around, Ms. Sherry Ramsay; and winners of the Open Charelston Contest, Ms. Gina Vetro & Mr. Tom Theile.

Marriage is a commitment that, in today’s day and age, proves to be a gamble with 50% ending in divorce. The stress of unemployment, foreclosures and a failing economy can reak havoc on even the healthiest relationship. Empty nesters are finding their children moving back home after graduating college. Retirement is delayed due to a crashing market and a shrinking nest egg! Americans are finding themselves unhappy and unhealthy in these trying times.

People escape the trials of everyday life and feel good! Couples rekindle the magic in their relationship. The music and human interaction feeds the soul. Arthur Murray started his dream of teaching the world to dance in 1912! He embarked on a mission to bring the joy of dancing into every home. He felt the personal benefits of dancing with his lovely wife, Kathryn Murray and seized the opportunity to make the ‘footprint’ a household icon!

There are currently approximately 220 studios on every continent! Each studio is individually owned and operated; however, they share a common mission… “to make learning to dance fun and easy!”

The syllabus, the International dance board, the unit of instruction and the interrelated system of teaching are all unique to the Arthur Murray organization.

We are proud to be a part of this company and its proven success! We continue to grow and prosper! We welcome the opportunity to teach Severna Park and the surrounding areas the joy of ballroom dancing! Like Arthur, we hope to leave a ‘footprint’ on the community!
