Changing Seasons…

I heard a wonderful quote the other day that said, “the days are long, but the years fly by…” and I was reminded that we are welcoming Fall with its’ changing leaves and chilly nights!  As I look around the studio, I can’t tell what day, month or year it is.  In 22 years the scene always looks the same… happy, healthy and fun!

We had a wonderful summer Chesapeake Event and celebrated dancing with 110 of our students and friends from neighboring schools.  We also successfully welcomed the new studio, Crofton, to the Arthur Murray Family!  As the season changes we are anticipating the Las Vegas Super-rama and a local Showcase Event!

Before you know it we will be selling tickets for our annual Holiday Gala held in Annapolis as we round off a tremendous year!

No matter the weather or season, dancing is always an activity to enjoy!  The industry has survived the depression, multiple recessions, rain, snow, sleet and floods!

The studio is our sanctuary… our happy refuge from the changing seasons of time and life!

Dance Lessons… Priceless!

I was speaking with a student today and she was explaining, with exasperation, that she couldn’t get her husband to understand what the dancing means to her.  I asked her if she could explain it to me.  She took a deep breath,  paused and looked at me with tears in her eyes and said, “It makes me feel like I fit in for the first time in my life”!

I have conversations like this one several times a week.  Students who are tormented trying to explain the value of their experience to others or justify their investment in their dancing programs and events.  It never ceases to amaze me that someone would rob another of the joy and healthy experience that ballroom dancing provides.  Everyone experiences something unique and personal.  Each benefit of dancing is special to the individual and should not be judged by another.

I think of how society can be judgmental; jobs can be demanding; family can be combative; and life can be unfair.  On the other hand, I look around the studio and see smiling faces and hear joyful laughter.  I hear words of endearment and see gestures of kindness.  I feel joy and passion for music and movement.  The energy is intoxicating!

I can’t put into words the magic of dancing!  One has to experience it to understand it for themselves.  The cost is a small fraction of the return on the investment!

If there is someone in your life who dances, don’t ask them how much they spend at the studio… ask them WHY they dance!!!

Maybe  you’ll understand why they feel it is PRICELESS!

We Are Dancing In Crofton!

We are excited to announce that we are open and dancing in Crofton!

 The space is lovely and full of natural light!  There are private lessons scheduled by appointment and the group activity is growing!

The new staff are eager to bring the joy of dancing to the community and look forward to having a formal open house in the near future.

If you have a friend, family member or acquaintance that always wanted to try dancing, but Severna Park was just too far, please check out the new location!  The owners are proud to expand their successful business to the outlying areas of Annapolis and hope to continue to provide a first-class facility to learn, practice and use your new-found skills!

New Year’s Resolutions

We are a few weeks into the new year and already enough time has passed  proving that we have lost sight of our new year’s resolutions!  It is amazing how the excitement that builds around new beginnings fuels us to make commitments that we can’t or won’t keep. 

When I look at the student body at any Arthur Murray this is far from the truth!  Students make commitments and set goals every day!  They joyfully dream and find hapiness in the promise that their life will be enhanced by participating in the journey to becoming a good dancer.  Of course this journey has its challenges.  Each student has to dedicate their time, effort and money to making their dreams come true.  There is also a curve of learning that, at times, can test a person mentally and physically. 

So what is the difference between making a new year’s resolution and setting a goal with Arthur Murray?  The answer is the consistent, unwavering support and encouragement that the staff provide! It is the fuel that keeps people coming back for more!   The smiles, phone calls, greetings, trust, rapport, personalized planning, accountability and proof of progress all play an important part in the success of reaching goals!

I am proud to be a part of such a wonderful organization!  It is rewarding and heart-warming to see the achievements of the students in an Arthur Murray Dance Studio!  It doesn’t have to be the New Year to make a resolution to be a better you… call the studio today and meet your personal goals tomorrow with the help of a certified Arthur Murray Instructor!

Oh, What a Feeling!

The energy and excitement surrounding an Arthur Murray event never ceases to amaze me!  The women, in their beautiful dresses, glow with the effervescence of a twinkling star and the men, in their dashing black attire, so elegantly frame their lovely partners!  Everyone is shaking with a combination of nerves and pure enthusiasm to exhibit their skills for friends, family and peers!  It is truly intoxicating!

The Severna Park Open House event was held on Friday, November 18th from 7pm – 10pm and had approximately 75 people in attendance.  Everyone gathered to demonstrate their progress and support their fellow dancers throughout a packed evening of professional/amateur demonstrations.

There was food, general instruction, social dancing and plenty of camaraderie.  Some of the students invited guests to experience the joy of dancing!  It is the highest form of flattery and we were grateful to host them during their visit!  Some chose to try their hand at a few private lessons to experience, first-hand, how dancing can elevate their life!

Events like these prove that in such troubled economic times we, as a society, need to feel loved, supported and appreciated!  Life continues to pound at our doors, but at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio we don’t let life in!  We create a healthy environment where everyone is safe to BE HAPPY!  Don’t wait…. call the studio now and elevate your life… Oh what a feeling!
